If you have been following the news over the past few days, you know that House Republicans in Michigan have been hard at work stripping away the rights of women to make decisions about their own health. One of our Field Organizers, Molly Korn, sent an email out this morning elaborating on the issue. See below:
Dear Friend,
I am a field organizer for Sam Singh’s campaign for State Representative and I am angry. Contrary to what the media tells us, the war on women is very much alive at the state and federal level. A fact clearly demonstrated by recent actions in the US Senate and the Michigan House of Representatives.
Just last week, Republicans in the US Senate moved to block pay equity legislation, for the second time in two years. When women earn less, families earn less. How anyone can claim to be “pro-family” but not support families making their full wage potential is beyond me.
In Michigan, the Republicans in the state House of Representatives are fast tracking one of the most severe pieces of anti-choice legislation in our state’s history. These bills put burdensome restrictions on clinics and interfere in decisions between women and their doctors. The proponents of these bills have clearly stated that their goal is to put an end to Roe vs. Wade in Michigan. These bills have nothing to do with being “pro-life,” they have everything to do with being anti-choice.
Later today, the Michigan House of Representatives will be taking up this dangerous package of anti-choice legislation. Please take action now and stand up against these bills by calling your State Representative or visiting Planned Parenthood’s Action Center today.
It is legislative actions like these that solidify my commitment to getting Sam elected as State Representative. Sam will be a strong advocate for a woman’s right to make decisions about her health, family and livelihood. I am proud that Sam stands firmly opposed to regressive policies being pushed on a national and state level.
